Philosophy and Approach: As a mental health professional, I offer individual counseling, relationship (couples) counseling, group counseling, and professional consultation.
I approach our work with a deep commitment to social justice, queer theory, and liberation. I am transparent, empowering, empathic, and collaborative. I practice with a grounding in relational therapy, within that the most important factor in our mental well-being is the relationships we build. I employ Narrative Therapy and Internal Family Systems to give structure to our work (and I am happy to discuss what this means). I am trained in Narrative Exposure Therapy for the treatment of trauma. And I have received specialized training in supporting transgender people including letters for gender-affirming procedures.
My focus includes gender and gender transition, sexuality, racial identity, trauma, and personal growth. I welcome people of all identities.
Formal Education and Training: I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Portland State University. My coursework included: Theories and Interventions, Foundations of Substance Abuse, Developmental Foundations, Using Tests and Appraisal Instruments, Foundations of Couples, Marriage, and Family Counseling, Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, Legal & Ethical Issues, Psychopharmacology, Multicultural Counseling, Research and Program Evaluation, Group Counseling, Foundations of Mental
Health Services, Counseling Skills, Career & Lifestyle Planning, Systemic Perspective on Human Sexuality, and Grief and Loss. This program is certified by The Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP). I have trained in assessment and planning for gender-affirming medical care with Kate Kauffman of Brave Space. I have trained in Narrative Exposure Therapy with K Hixson, Ph.D.
As a Licensee of the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, I abide by its Code of Ethics. To maintain my license, I am required to participate in continuing education, taking classes dealing with subjects relevant to this profession.
Fees: $200 per 53-minute individual session. $250 per 53-minute relationship (couple) session. $50 per person, per session for group counseling. $200 per session for letter of support for gender-affirming procedures. Limited sliding scale available based on need for cash-pay clients.
